Homemade Red Velvet Cake Recipe:



  • 1 and ¼ cups of Maida Flour
  • ½ tsp of Baking Soda
  • ½ tsp Salt
  • 1 tsp Cocoa Powder
  • 1 cup of crushed Sugar
  • 1 large Egg
  • 1 cup of Oil
  • ½ cup of Buttermilk
  • A few drops of Red Food Coloring
  • ½ tsp Vanilla Extract (solution)

Ingredients for the frosting

  • ½ cup of Cream Cheese
  • 1 cup of icing Sugar (powdered)
  • ½ cup of Almonds/Cashews/Pecans (finely chopped)
  • ½ tsp Vanilla Extract (solution)
  • ½ cup of Butter

Directions for preparing the Red Velvet Cake

  • Filter the Maida flour, baking soda, cocoa powder and salt together and combine them uniformly. Keep it aside for some time.
  • Add sugar and egg in an another bowl. Blend together properly.
  • Now, gently pour the oil into the mixture and then mix well.
  • Add the buttermilk and flour mixture and mix properly.
  • Now, pour vanilla extract and red food coloring into the mixture.
  • Grease the 3 round cake pans with the oil and pour the mixture into them.
  • Bake in a preheated oven at 350F for about 30 to 40 minutes.
  • After it, insert a toothpick or skewer in the center for the cake consistency. If it comes clear out, then the cake is done.
  • Take out all the pans from the oven and let them cool.
  • Now, to prepare frosting, mix the cream cheese and butter in the bowl.
  • Add the icing sugar in it and again mix, until the mixture gets smooth.
  • Add the almonds and vanilla extract.
  • Frosting is ready. Spread it between the layers, on the sides and the top of the cake.
  • At last, top the cake with the almonds. Now, the classic Red Velvet Cake is ready completely.
