After Diwali festivities, here comes the festival of Chhath Puja, which is celebrated in the northern states of the country, mainly Bihar, Jharkhand and Uttar Pradesh. Again, this festival includes several traditional rituals, such as holy bathing, fasting and standing for hours in the water making offerings to the Sun☀️god. Like all other occasions, Chhath Puja is also incomplete without its special delicacies, especially the Prasad, which is consist of Thekua and Rice Kheer.

Although, there are a number of recipes to enrich your taste buds on this special festival and can also easily cooked at home. But, Thekua and Rice Kheer are the most important dishes that you can see at each house on this day. Required ingredients for Thekua

Thekua

  • 500 gm Whole Wheat Flour (Atta)
  • 2 tbsp of Coconut (chopped)
  • 4 green Cardamom (peeled and mashed)
  • 33 gm Jaggery (Gur)
  • 1 and ½ cups of Water
  • Vegetable Oil or Ghee

How to prepare Thekua

Thekua

  • First of all, prepare the mixture of water, green cardamom and jaggery in a bowl.
  • Now, mix around 4 tbsp of this mixture to ghee and coconut.
  • And, after that add this mixture into the wheat flour and form dough just like you make for Chapattis.
  • Take a small portion of dough and make a ball of it. Then, press it flat on your palm.
  • Now, press it against a Sancha (embroidered wooden surface or mould) for making the shape.
  • Repeat the same process for the remaining dough.
  • In between, heat the oil in a wok (Kadai) and when the shape has been acquired from the Sancha, deep fry in the oil/ghee, till golden brown.
  • Transfer them on a paper towel to remove the excess of oil/ ghee.
  • Thekua is ready, serve it completely cool.

Required ingredients for Rice Kheer

RiceKheer

  • ½ cup of Basmati Rice
  • 10 tbsp of Sugar
  • A few strands of Saffron
  • 6 cups of Milk
  • 1 tsp of Ghee
  • 1 cup of Water
  • 1 tsp of Raisins (Kish-Mish)
  • 1 tsp of Cardamom Powder
  • ½ cup of Cashew Nut (thinly sliced)

How to prepare Rice Kheer

  • Heat the milk in a bowl and bring it to a boil. After that, reduce the flame to low.
  • In between, wash the raw rice properly.
  • Now, add the rice into the boiling milk. When the rice are half cooked, add little amount of water if required.
  • Add sugar and cashew nut pieces in the cooked rice.
  • Stir continuously, till it boils completely.
  • Take a little amount of milk in the bowl and dissolve saffron into it.
  • Add it to the cooked mixture with cardamom and raisins. Mix well.
  • Rice Kheer is ready to serve.
