A very few days are left to celebrate the festive occasion of Raksha Bandhan. It’s one of the most significant festivals of India, which shows the deep bond of love and affection that exists between siblings, particularly brother and sister. People enjoy this day with several ways, such as by preparing different types of sweet dishes and many other delicacies to completely dig into the delight of the occasion.

“Especially sisters, who rarely prepare dishes on their brothers demand, but on Rakhi they cook all those desserts that are liked by them, such as Burfis, Mithais, Pakros and Pancakes.”

Now, these delicacies, which we have mentioned above become very common as always prepared for this fest. This time try some new and unique dessert, which renders a big smile on your brother’s face at the moment when he would look. And, to create same, we are giving you a recipe of sweet dish, very popular during the festival time- Doodh Peda also known as Milk Peda so prepare this delicious treat to your loving brother on this Rakhi.

For preparing 10 to 12 Pedas, following ingredients are required

  • 200 gm of Condensed Milk
  • 1 cup of Milk Powder
  • 2 tsp of Melted Ghee
  • 4 strands of Saffron (cut into small pieces)
  • 8 pistachios (finely chopped)

  • Immerse the strands of saffron in the warm water and keep aside.
  • Now, put a non-stick wok (kadai) on the gas stove over the medium flame.
  • Add condensed milk, milk powder and saffron solution. Whisk it properly so that there are no lumps.
  • Cook it, until starts to leave the sides of the wok (kadai). Once it begins leaving the sides of the wok (kadai), add ghee and give a quick mix.
  • After adding ghee, do not switch off the flame, cook, till you see a thick mass slightly sticky and take a small portion, roll it and check that you should be able to form a ball.
  • Switch off the gas and cool down for some time.
  • Now, when the mixture remains slightly warm, take out the lemon sized portion from it and make a round shaped ball, slightly flatten it.
  • Make a very slight pit at the center and add chopped pistachios. Arrange them in a clean plate.
  • Repeat the same, until the whole mixture finishes.
  • After that, leaves it to set for at least an hour to get the perfect texture.
  • Finally, Doodh Peda is ready.
