Sheer Khurma

Eid al-Fitr, the festival that marks the end of the holy month of the Ramadan with the fabulous feast. It’s also known as a “Sweet Eid”, because a number of sweet dishes are munched on this grand occasion. In India all the festivals are incomplete without dessert course, so it’s the Ramadan sweets and elegance that includes the aroma of this ongoing month. As Eid is coming up in a few days and people are doing lots of preparation for this festival, especially Muslims. Hence, for that we are also here to celebrate this Eid with you by bringing a recipe of special “Sheer Khurma” (Meethi Sevaiyan) that make this occasion more delicious and enjoyable.

Sheer Khurma is one of the popular desserts prepared during Ramadan and Eid. This special dish served on the morning of Eid day in the family after the Eid prayer as a breakfast and throughout the day to all the visiting guest. So, let’s start with the recipe of this luscious dessert:

How to prepare Sheer Khurma at home?

Ingredients used

  • 2 tbsp butter/ghee
  • 1/4 cup of vermicelli (Sevaiyan)
  • 1/2 cup of sugar
  • 3 cups of milk
  • 1/4 cup dried fruits (finely chopped)
  • 2 tbsp raisins (Kishmish)
  • 2 tbsp dates (Khajur)
  • 1/2 tsp cardamom powder
  • 2 tbsp rose water
  • Cardamom powder for garnishing

Directions for preparing it

  • Heat the butter in a non-stick pan and add vermicelli in it.
  • Cook, until it turns to golden brown.
  • Now, add sugar and milk in it and again cook, till the sugar completely melts.
  • After that, put dry fruits and raisins, blend them well and let it cook over a low flame for 4-6minutes.
  • Sprinkle date, cardamom powder and rose water over it and boil for 2-3 minutes.
  • If Sheer Khurma is too much stick, then add hot water into and mix them properly.
  • The Delicious dessert is ready, serve hot or cold and garnished it with cardamom powder before serving.
