Top-10-Selling-Cars-in-India

Curious to know who were the top 10 selling cars in the Indian market in 2018? Don’t worry; we have covered it all for you. As per the automobile reports, 2018 was comparatively a slow year for the Indian automotive industry in term of sales, and we can expect a further steep decline in sales this year too. This is because the entire auto industry is gearing up to tackle the titanic shift from BS4 compliance to BS6 compliance owing to the recent Indian government mandate. To tighten up the things, the Indian government last year was in no mood to allow the sale of BS4 compliant vehicles after March 2018. A lot of eagerness was shown by the top car brands in India last year to empty their BS4 compliant vehicle stocks. Even though India is not among the top automotive markets across the globe, the overall car sales figure in 2018 stand around 20 lakh units which are staggering itself.

Here is a list of top ten selling cars in the Indian Market :

Maruti Suzuki Alto – 256,661 unit (total sales)

At one point, at the beginning of last year, it felt like Maruti Suzuki Dzire will dethrone its younger sibling, Maruti Suzuki Alto, a long-standing winner among top-selling cars. However, the odds were proven wrong as the year went ahead and Maruti Suzuki Alto hold its supremacy in 2018 in terms of being the most selling car in India.

Maruti Suzuki Dzire- 251,853 unit (total sales)

Dzire proved everyone wrong last year and was a surprise candidate for the second position among the top selling cars. The prolific car makers have launched a completely revamped version of Maruti Suzuki Dzire in India in late 2017, which proved to be a game changer for the most popular car maker company in India. The all-new-Dzire at the end of 2017 also represent the next-gen compact Sedans in the Indian market. Baleno’s HEARTED platform also debuted in the revamped Dzire, which led to a colossal craze for this new sedan among customers allowing it to claim second-spot right below the top-selling Alto.

Maruti Suzuki Swift- 223,630 unit (total sales)

2018 was a year that will be remembered for all-new car launches from Maruti. Swift, was also a part of this Maruti sponsored carnival as a brand-new Maruti Suzuki Swift was launched at 2018 Auto Expo. To be very frank, Swift was expected to be among the top selling cars of 2018 given the excitement and craze that was seen among the people for this car beauty. Swift outcompeted its rivals due to its stylish design and cabin space.

Maruti Suzuki Baleno- 210,236 unit (total sales)

Maruti Suzuki Baleno holds the pole position in the premium hatch segment since the time it has been launched overthrowing arch rival Hyundai i20. Despite a new i20 in the market, Baleno has been able to pull away a clear victory against its top rival, Hyundai i20 in the premium hatch segment. Baleno has far away from rival, Hyundai i20 with a staggering 70,000 units gap in terms of car sales in 2018.

Maruti Suzuki Brezza- 147,949 unit (total sales)

Breeza is again a first attempt from Maruti to capture the premium hatch segment and so far it has been given a full space from rivals like Hyundai in terms of rocking the sales charts. This premium hatchback space once owned and created by a timeless rock solid boxy SUV, Ford Ecosport, is no longer a familiar territory for the same, as Brezza has blown away everyone in the competition including Ford. Features like AMT and a few more tweaks in design makes Breeza a clear winner.

Maruti Suzuki Wagon R- 150,191 unit (total sales)

At the sixth position in top car sales, we have an all-time favorite car from Maruti that is the new Wagon-R. Last year, surpassing everyone’s expectations, Wagon R has made the entry to top 6 selling cars. With 1.50 lakh unit sales last year, Wagon R outpassed all the Hyundai brand cars easily in its segment.

Hyundai i20 – 141,104 unit (total sales)

Hyundai i20 made umph efforts to beat wagon R, a hatch from their arch-rivals Maruti Suzuki, but all went in vain as it registered a low sales figure in comparison to Maruti. There is a gap of approx 1 lakh units between Hyundai’s best selling car and Maruti’s top-selling car, which clearly shows that Hyundai requires much homework to compete against the top car manufacturer in India.

Hyundai Grand i10- 137,883 unit (total sales)

As expected, another contender from Hyundai claims 8th stop in the list. Hyundai Grand i10 was able to capture a sales mark of 137,883 units in 2018. The cutout sales were a result of stiff competition from the likes of all-new Wagon-R and new Santro. We can expect a better sales performance from Grand i10 this year as it up and ready for a cosmetic change.

Hyundai Creta- 120,619 unit (total sales)

Hyundai’s Creta by entering the top 9 selling cars list has proven its worth to Hyundai owners how valuable it is for them. This is one segment where Maruti cars do not come close to Hyundai in terms of sales or even car popularity.

Maruti Suzuki Celerio- 100,957 unit (total sales)

Finishing up this prestigious list of top 10 selling cars is a slow-moving brand from the house of Maruti. Yes, you guess it right it’s the Celerio, which makes to the top 10 list in 2018. A lukewarm response has been received by this car from the masses in India. We expect that the practicality of this car in terms of space has been the main reason that allowed it to sit with other big guns in the top 10 selling cars list. So on this note, we did all of you adieu hoping to come back with some more exciting stuff related to automobile space
