We all have witnessed the success of  Maruti Alto 800 in its initial years in the Indian market. Later on, it turned out to be one of the best selling cars in the compact car segment. Launched back in 2012, Alto 800 was seen as a replacement for the popular Maruti suzuki 800 (now discontinued). But, Alto 800 offered more than that, in every aspect. Now, it holds rivalry with the Tata Nano and Hyundai Eon 800cc. However, Hyundai Eon is priced higher in spite of being the part of the same segment.

Maruti Alto 800 Facelift Review

In the present time, the Indian auto market is heating up with new brand upbringings such as Renault Kwid and Datsun Redigo. RediGo is available at a starting price of Rs 2.5 lakh and fits good in the segment with the alto 800. Now, the automaker has come up with the refreshed Facelifted version of the Alto 800. Take notes on what new it has to offer for the Indian commuters.

Exterior:

This type, Maruti Alto 800 has gone through some mild updates. Only few changes can be seen on the exterior counterpart. The basic design of the car somehow remains similar to the predecessor. Apart from the basic styling, the fresh updates that have been added includes high-mounted headlights,  slightly flared wheel arches and a thick C-pillar. The  rear portion gets crystal tail-lights. Anyways, these all come into light if you observe the car deeply. Otherwise, one can’t differentiate it from the old model.

The front fascia can be seen with slight upgrade as the front bumper is completely new  and the front grille is now more slim and thick. The headlights house new amber turn indicators. The updated Alto 800 also gets space for installing fog lamps in the front, which was a missing point on the old version. Dimension Wise, the Alto facelift measures 3,430mm in length, while the older one measured 3,395mm. The breadth and height of the model remains same.

Interior:

Talking about the interior, the new Alto 800 offers new fabric on the seats and door. The carmaker has added more equipments this time across the trim levels. The base trim gets a new shade for seats along with passenger side wing mirror.

The higher trims get more space in the rear and a child-safety lock (on LXi and VXi trims), and remote entry on the LXi variant. However, certain features such as front power windows, central locking and full wheel caps have been offered as standard on the Alto 800 VXi trim.

Power and Performance:

The updated Alto 800 still continues to be powered by a three-cylinder F8 petrol engine, which makes 48hp  at 6,000 rpm and a peak torque of 69 Nm at 3,500 rpm efficiently. The engine comes mated to a five-speed manual gearbox. People looking for AMT gearbox need to look for it on the powerful Alto K10, which demands more bucks.

Witnessing no particular change in the mechanicals, the automaker however claims that the facelifted Alto 800 is more fuel efficient than the pre-facelifted model. It has been claimed to deliver around 24 kmpl. The ride quality remains same. It gets a 6.5-inch brake booster for better braking performance. The power steering looks a bit upmarket, improving the handling on uneven roads.

Safety:

On the safety part, Maruti has introduced driver airbags across all trims as standard. In comparison with the close rivals, it has been found that the Nano offers no airbags while, the Kwid offers driver’s airbag on the top variant. The ABS is missing and it’s common in order to keep the price competitive.
