The automobile industry eagerly awaits festivities to start in India as along with the festivities, customers are always on the lookout for purchasing new vehicles for personal use. Keeping this trend in mind Italian automobile firm launched another limited Sportivo edition of Punto Evo which did receive a facelift a year back, but still the company has launched this model with updated features again at a price tag of INR 7.10 lacs (Ex-showroom New Delhi). Volkswagen too being in the rivals launched another model in the premium hatchback series, namely Volkswagen Polo in the range of INR 5.3 lacs to INR 8.6 lacs.

Style and Design

The Fiat Punto Evo features a set of newly designed alloy wheels, a modified headlight cluster, powerful halogen lamps and turn indicators. The bonnet too gets a slight modification with four expressive lines, and is accompanied by a windscreen washer. Its front bumper now has a wider air intake section along with a pair of refined fog lamp consoles The rear bumper is in body color and is affixed with a pair of brake lights. The Volkswagen Polo on the contrary comes with halogen headlights fitted at the front, wide front radiator grille decorated with chrome strips, front and rear bumpers. The bumpers on the rear side are additionally fitted with reflectors, which is an extra advantage. The windscreen is built with a heat insulating quality to it. On the interior fronts, the seats are now dressed up with a new set of covers, the doors have grab handles for passenger convenience, the central console gets brushed aluminum coating. The Emotion trim with 1368cc Fire motor can achieve a top speed in the range of 155 to 165 Kmph and can breach the100 Kmph speed barrier in about 15 to 16 seconds. The Sport trim also has the same top speed, but it takes only 14.33 seconds to clock 100 Kmph mark.

In case of the Volkswagen Polo, apart from the GT TSI, all the other variants are mated with a five speed manual transmission gearbox. The diesel options, which are integrated with 1.5-liter mill, can reach a maximum speed of 165 Kmph and can breach the 100 Kmph mark in just about 14 seconds. Whereas, the petrol trims equipped with 1.2-liter in-line motor that can touch the 100 Kmph mark is 13 to 15 seconds and can achieve a top speed of 145 to 150 Kmph quite easily.


Punto Evo entry level variants come equipped with features like automatic door lock, fire prevention system, immobilizer with rolling code and door open indicator. In addition to these, the mid range versions gets ABS with EBD as standard. On the other hand, the top end variant has sophisticated aspects like 3-point ELR seat belts with load limiter and pretensioner, height adjustable front seat belts, front air bags with early crash sensors, front fog lamps and passenger airbag deactivation.

In Volkswagen Polo all the variants are well incorporated with a number of safety aspects protecting both the vehicle and its occupants. Both the front and rear seats are integrated with head restraints which have a height adjustment facility. All variants come equipped with an electronic immobilizer avoiding theft. The Active and Dynamic petrol versions are powered by a 1.2-litre fire petrol motor integrated with a multi-point fuel injection system, which allows it to pump out 67bhp at 6000rpm along with a superior torque of 96Nm at 2500rpm.

The top end Emotion petrol variant comes equipped with a 1.4-litre fire engine that produces a maximum power of 88.7bhp at 6000rpm and returns a torque output of 115Nm at 4500rpm.

Just like Fiat Punto Evo, Volkswagen Polo too comes equipped with different configurations specified below:

The GT TDI variant is decked with a four cylinder in-line TDI engine which can generate a maximum power of about 103.56bhp at 4400rpm and a peak torque output of 250Nm at 1500 to 2500rpm.

The petrol trims are equipped with 1.2-litre engine which can generate a maximum power of 74bhp at 5400rpm and a torque output of 110Nm at 3750rpm.

The diesel trims comes with 1.5-litre TDI engine and have the caliber to generate a maximum power of 88.8bhp at 4200rpm and a torque output 230Nm in the range of 1500 to 2500rpm.
