Spurred by the popular public demand of the last few years, this year also car companies have buckled up their seats and are ready with a barrage of SUV offerings, spoiling the Indian car buyer for choices. With sales showing an increase each year, the demand for niching out in the fiercely competed segment is huge and not an easy one to accomplish. From old discontinued ones being relaunched to the existing ones being revamped, manufacturers are leaving no stone unturned to carve out a place for themselves in the soaring market.

Let’s take a brief look at all the new upcoming SUVs in 2018/2019 that would dawn the Indian roads this year.

Honda CR-V

Not deterred by previous results, Honda plans to enter the space once again with the new fifth-gen CR-V. Learning from the previous experiences, the new CR-V will pack a 1.6-litre i-DTEC diesel engine as an option. The diesel motor produces 160 PS and boasts of a peak torque of 350 Nm of and comes coupled to a 9-speed ZF automatic transmission to cater to the mileage worries of the Indian Consumer. The SUV will be seven seaters and expected to be launched by mid-2018. Honda has plans to launch including in total 6 SUVs in the upcoming years.

Hyundai Creta Facelift

Despite the premium price-tag that had raised a few eyebrows from industry experts, The Hyundai Creta, riding high on the popularity charts, is one of the best-selling SUV in the country. Hyundai is expected to make exterior makeover in design and look to Creta and showcase it at the 2018 Auto Expo in February. Hyundai will in all likelihood increase the price by a small margin in return for the new attractive features the SUV comes loaded with.

X3 has been one the best-selling SUVs coming out from the BMW house. The 2018 edition of this premium medium-sized SUV will be launched by mid of this year. Built on the CLAR platform, it would be 55 kg lighter and promises to offer more cabin room.The aerodynamics and fuel efficiency is further increased by a drag coefficient of 0.29. Across the globe, X3 comes with a total of six different engine which includes an M Performance variant. The launch of M variant shrouded in mystery. However, as confirmed BMW is all set to launch the 2.0-litre, 4-cylinder diesel engine. The car will come with a price-tag of anywhere in the range of Rs 50 lakh to Rs 60 lakh and will boast of a 190PS of power and 400Nm of torque. X3 with great features and its snappy performance will all in all be a good value for the money.The M variant if launched will cost your pockets something around Rs 1 crore (ex-showroom).

Mahindra TUV300 Plus

Mahindra is the new entrant in the ‘people mover’ segment with its 7 seat version of TUV300. Launched as the successor to the aging Xylo, the SUV will be in all likeliness called TUV300 Plus. The new entrant will boast of Mahindra’s 2.2-litre mHawk diesel, producing 121.5PS of power and 280 Nm of torque. A 5-speed manual gearbox will attend the transmission duties. The TUV300 Plus, with a price tag ranging between Rs 8 lakh and Rs 12 lakh, will meet the public eye by the first half of this year.

Tata Q501

The appreciation for recent improved products and offerings from Tata Motors has further reinforced the belief and the value that consumers associate with the brand. The rate of new product launches is laudable. The market buzz coupled with the companies own efforts to keep up the momentum creates an apt environment for the launch of Tata’s flagship product. Built on the same platform as the Land Rover Freelander 2, the all-new SUV codenamed Q501 is expected to be launched soon with a price-tag of Rs 20 lakh.

Volvo XC40

The official India website of the company confirms that the compact SUV could make its Indian debut as soon as mid-2018. Already turning out to be a favorite of the experts, the SUV has garnered significant accolades for its well-proportionate design and technology from all quarters. The engine alternatives include a 2.0-litre, 4-cylinder T4 diesel engine (190PS and 400 Nm) and a 2.0-litre, turbocharged T5 petrol engine (250PS and 350Nm). The engine coupled to an 8-speed automatic transmission enables power to all four wheels. The SUV will be available in three variants. Being an import it would be a challenge for Volvo to keep the price competitive. However, it is expected to cost anything between 35 lakh and Rs 50 lakh depending on the variant.

Nissan X-Trail

This Nissan X-Trail SUV is a much-appreciated version from Nissan and also enlisted in Top SUV cars in India has a tried and tested engine of 2.0-liter MRD20DD engine and an electric motor as speculated. The said output is called at 145Bhp and 270Nm. The transmissions are X-Tronic CVT gearbox and an AWD setup which can be implemented. Some other specifications are automatic climate control, advanced music system, rear AC vents and multifunction steering. Some outer tweaks have been done like Wheel arches and alloy wheels.

Audi Q2

The new Audi Q2 has been the league of New SUV cars in India which is supposed to get a 1.4-litre TFSI engine and a seven-speed S-Tronic dual-clutch automatic transmission. The SUV has been set up with the previous line of Q series and has all the premium attachment which has been fitted on other in market Q series SUV classes.

Hyundai Carlino [HND-14]

Hyundai Carlino was showcased in Delhi Auto Expo 2016 and is an under 4m SUV from Hyundai. The design was done at the Hyundai Namyang design center in Korea. The exterior has been fitted with boxy and muscular chassis with swept back headlamps, hexagonal grille, flat hood, huge glasshouse. The SUV would be carrying a drive engine of 1.4L with 83 PS power and 11.7 kg of Torque.

Jeep Compass (New Jeep C-SUV)

The second generation Jeep Compass is currently under production in Goiana, Pernambuco in Brazil and is planned for over 100 countries globally, India being one of them. The second generation Jeep Compass will be based on the modified version of the Fiat 500X‘s Small-Wide 4×4 and Jeep Renegade platform. The 2.0-litre Tigershark flex-fuel engine produces 166 hp and 20.5 kgf-m (201.04 Nm) of torque running on ethanol and 159 cvs (159 hp) and 19.9 kgf-m (195.15 Nm) of torque running on petrol. The 2.0-litre diesel engine delivers 170 cv (170 hp) and 35.7 kgf-m (350.10 Nm) of torque.  The engines are mated to a 6-speed automatic and 9-speed automatic transmissions. The C-SUV will also be available with an optional four-wheel drive system.
