The year 2018 started with Auto Expo and we saw many launches, showcase, and concepts cars during the show. Many brands assembled on a single platform and showed the future of Indian cars in the market. In the first half of the year, a big number of launches take place and there are many more for upcoming years and months. More exciting, the May launches are also on the way to reach us soon. Without wasting much of your time, let’s jump into an acknowledgment of the cars going or expect to launch in May 2018.

1. Hyundai Creta 2018

Come this May and Creta Facelift is all-ready to feel the summer heat on Indian Roads alongside the likes of  Renault Captur, Renault Duster, Mahindra XUV500 and the Nissan Terrano. Bookings are already open across Authorised Hyundai dealerships in Delhi and Jaipur. As per reports, Bookings can be done for small upfront amount backed by assured delivery promise within one month of booking. The pre-booking amount is in the range of  Rs 11,000 to Rs 51,000 (refundable).

Sunroof and LED tail lamps are the highlight features in the all-new Creta Facelift which borrows its looks from the ix25 showcased at the 2017 Chengdu Motor Show. Under the hood, Hyundai inherits power from the existing set of engines which include a petrol motor (1.6-litre) delivering 123PS of maximum power at maximum torque of 151 Nm and two variants of diesel (1.4-litre and 1.6 liters). The power scores of the diesel variant are 89PS/220Nm and 128PS/265Nm respectively.

2. Mitsubishi Outlander

Pre-Bookings for the Mitsubishi third-generation Outlander have commenced and the SUV is expected to be launched in the coming weeks. The key features include a panoramic sunroof with dual-zone climate control as well as the 710W Rockford Fosgate sound system. In sharp parallels with its yesteryears predecessor, the second-gen model Mitsubishi which retired post-2012, the third-gen Mitsubishi Outlander is powered by a 2.4-litre petrol engine that is coupled to a CVT with 6-speed paddle shift operation. The engine churns out 167 PS of max power and 222 Nm of peak torque.

In terms of safety and features, the single variant Mitsubishi Outlander packs a punch With seven airbags, ABS (anti-lock braking system) with EBD (electronic brake-force distribution), HSA (hill start assist) and ASC (active stability control) with TCL (traction control logic). Other noteworthy features include, 6.1-inch touchscreen infotainment system, LED head and tail lamps, DRLs. On Indian roads, the 2018 Outlander will lock horns with  the upcoming fifth-gen Honda CR-V and the Volkswagen Tiguan.

3. Nissan X-Trail

Following its world premiere in September last year, The revived Nissan X-Trail is all set to make its much-awaited entry in the  European market this summer.  Also christened as the Rogue in the USA, X-Trail facelift takes on the stage this time with a host of cosmetic as well as mechanical updates. In India, Nissan will launch only the hybrid version of the SUV as a CBU(completely built up) unit.

Reportedly, the hybrid version will be powered by 2.0-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine coupled to an electric motor. CVT (continuously variable transmission) automatic integrated with the powertrain will transmit power from the engine to the wheels. The SUV boats of new leather-upholstered seats encased in a more spacious cabin with enough room for 5. Potential buyers can expect a price tag in the range of Rs 22.6 Lakh (approx).

4. Jeep Compass

The Jeep Compass Trailhawk promises great penetration for the American Automobile market in the booming Indian SUV market. The current month will witness the launch of one its most ambitious SUV with commendable off-road abilities. Indian car lovers will have three variants to choose from – Sport, Longitude and Limited. Despite being a 5-seater SUV, the SUV will stand up against the likes of 7-seater SUVs such as the Tata Hexa, Mahindra XUV500 facelift, and the Hyundai Tucson.

Further, the SUV will come in both petrol and diesel options. A 2.0-litre engine mated to a 6-speed manual gearbox as standard will drive the diesel variant. It is capable of producing 173PS of maximum power at peak torque of 350 Nm. The Automaker also promises a fuel efficiency of 7.1kmpl and 16.3kmpl for the 4×2 and 4×4 variants, respectively. Reportedly, the 4X4 option is available only with the 2.0-litre diesel engine.

For the petrol variant, the SUV uses the services of 1.4-litre capacity engine fine-tuned to deliver 163PS/250 Nm with a claimed mileage of 14.1kmpl (4×2 automatic). In addition to the 6-speed manual gearbox, the petrol engine also comes with an optional 7-speed DCT (dual clutch transmission). Standard features include ESP and Isofix child seat mounts with dual front airbags, ABS with EBD, and traction control. While the base Sport variant may come with a price tag of Rs 15.04 lakh, the top-spec Limited variant will in all likelihood cost up to Rs 20.56 lakh.

5. New Ferrari Portofino Convertible

Ferrari is considering to introduce new Portofino in May. With V8 twin-turbo engine producing 592 bhp of power, the new Ferrari Portofino becomes the most powerful retractable hardtop convertible sports car in the global market. With the sleek sharp LED and the large central grille, this Ferrari looks smiling from the front. It has a sharper profile and takes a carbon fibre side skirt in relation to iconic rear wheel arch underscored to tail lamps. The new Ferrari Portofino features a quad exhaust setup, twin tail lamps apart placed, metal folding roof, large boot lid.

It is powered by a 3.8-litre V8 engine which is able to churn out a maximum power of 592 bhp and a peak torque of 760 Nm. The new car also obtains electronic power steering, an electronic rear differential, and the Ferrari signature magnetorheological suspension.

6. Mahindra MPV

Mahindra has the MPV to launch in May with better looking, more capable and well-equipped characteristics. Looking from outside, it obtains chrome toothed grille with signature touch, LED daytime running lights, horizontal headlamps, and projector lights. Further, it is expected to get sporty alloy wheels, plastic underbody cladding, and an electric sunroof.

The Mahindra U321 MPV will be powered by a 2.2-litre mHawk engine. It can also take a 1.6-litre diesel unit developed by the company in collaboration with Ssangyong.

7. New-Gen Honda Amaze (Launched)

The new-gen Amaze takes newly designed headlamp cluster, an LED position light, new bolder bumper, updated silhouette, lowered roof-line and a fresh new grille. It gives a tough competition to rivals with the inclusion of a new set of alloy wheels, rear camera, and rear parking sensors. Inside the cabin, you will see the Digipad 2.0. Supporting Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, a multi-function steering wheel, cruise control, a Push button Start/Stop button, automatic climate control, and paddle shifters on offer with the petrol automatic.

The 1.2-litre petrol engine retains its position and the 1.5-litre diesel engine is also available on offer. Both the engine comes mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox and CVT option as well.

8. Mercedes-Benz E63 AMG (Launched)

Mercedes-Benz India declared to launch the AMG E63 S 4MATIC+ sedan on May 4. The E63 S 4Matic+, the most powerful model of the E-Class, keeps the handsome exterior profile along with smooth character lines resembling the E-class category. It features a new front bumper in relation to larger air intakes, a new single slat grille and a sporty exhaust setup at the back. Further, it obtains a wider wheel arch as compared to the standard car and matte-black AMG 20-inch alloy wheels.

It is powered by a turbocharged 4.0-litre V8 engine utilizing twin-scroll technology to reduce turbo lag and appreciate the performance. The engine is able to generate a peak power of 603 bhp and a peak torque of 850 Nm and comes mated to a nine-speed AMG Speedshift dual-clutch transmission. The engine also favors Mercedes’ signature 4Matic all-wheel-drive system.

9. Ford EcoSport S (Launched)

The new India-spec Ford EcoSport S will be similar to US-based model but not that much feature-rich. It will come with much awaited 1.0-litre turbocharged EcoBoost petrol engine which will be mated to a new 6-speed manual.

To get the sportier experience as the US-spec model, the EcoSport S will get the revised suspension setup. Further, it comes with new gunmetal finished alloys, grille, sportier design, a sunroof, fabric+leather upholstery, updated instrument cluster and chrome rings.

10. Hyundai i20 Facelift (Launched)

Hyundai i20 Facelift will get the CVT along with a 1.2-litre petrol engine which generates 82 bhp of max power and 115 Nm of max torque. The new i20 will get revised headlamps, new black cascading grille, new arrowhead fog lamps, a new bumper, new LED daytime running lamps and an integrated spoiler.

Further, it obtains new sculpted hatch door, large matte black insert, reflectors, new tail lamp cluster and an all-new rear bumper with a big matte black insert. Inside, you get new infotainment cluster, a larger touchscreen panel, inbuilt navigation, Android Auto and Apple Carplay.

11. Tata Nexon AMT (Launched)

As compared to standard Nexon models, it takes same features, engine, and designs. The bigger updates you will notice are the AMT(automated manual transmission unit), a 6-speed AMT unit and an AMT shifter with transcription of  ‘R’, ‘N’, ‘A’ and ‘M’ along with plus/minus sign.

The AMT option will be available on both the diesel and petrol engine options.

12. Toyota Yaris Sedan (Launched)

Toyota is launching the Yaris Compact Sedan next month. It is priced in the price range of Rs. 8.75 lakh up to Rs. 14.07 lakh in India. The pre-booking of the Yaris has been started with a token amount of Rs. 50,000. The new Yaris will be available in four variants including V, VX, J, G. The company offers ABS with EBD, disc brakes for all four wheels, rear parking sensor with a camera, front parking sensors, 7 airbags comprising knee and curtain airbags, and stability control.

The Yaris obtains a 5-star safety rating considering the ASEAN NCAP crash test. The Yaris is powered by a 1.5-litre petrol engine generating 108 bhp of power and 140Nm of torque. The engine of the car comes mated to a 6-Speed manual gearbox or further, an optional 7-step CVT automatic gearbox choices.

13. MINI Countryman (Launched)

The Mini Countryman is expected to launch in India on May 3. The SUV is a famous product for MINI India, and the locally assembled finish will make the price low. It will be available in a diesel and two petrol trims. It takes new design language and keeps the identity of a brand with wider but similar grille, clear wheel arches, and the new LED headlamps. It is more spacious and takes a 6.5-inch or 8.8-inch touchscreen infotainment system, Head-Up Display, Park Assistant, Cruise Control and MINI driving modes.

In the safety department, it features passenger airbags, Dynamic Stability Control, Run-flat tires as standard, Brake Control, ABS, Crash Sensor and Brake Assist.
