In 2016, we have been witnessed a number of new and updated launches from a slew of automakers in the country, and 2017 will be no less or may be even more than that. While many cars have already been scheduled to enter one of the fastest growing automobile markets, the Indian auto segment, many have yet to be tagged.

#1. Chevrolet Essentia -2017

The Chevy India first showcased the compact sedan, Essentia concept in 2016 Auto Expo and is expected to put the car on sale in the country soon.
The all new Chevrolet Essentia compact sedan shares platform with the next-gen Beat. The design of the Essentia is also claimed to be extracted in GM Korea Design Studio in order to give special treatment as well as to better suit the taste of the Indian buyers.

On mechanical-specs, the compact sedan is believed to be offered in both petrol and diesel engine options. While the former derivative is likely to be powered by a 1.2-litre SMARTECH 4-cylinder unit that pumps out 76 Bhp and 106 Nm. The latter will be fitted with a 1.0-litre SMARTECH 3-cylinder engine that can propel the vehicle with 56 Bhp along with 142 Nm.

#2. Nissan X-Trail Hybrid 2017

The hybrid SUV from the Japanese car manufacturer, Nissan X-trail was reported to launch by the end of last year, however, due to some undisclosed circumstances, it will go on sale in India from April this year.
The Nissan X-Trail SUV is not a fresh launch in India. It was on sale in the country before 2014 but later withdrawn due to poor sales. Now, after almost three years, it is making a comeback with Hybrid engine option instead of the regular powerhouse.

The 7-seater latest generation X-trail will be fitted with a 2.0-liter 4-cylinder petrol motor, generating 145 bhp along with the 207 Nm of peak torque. Further, the petrol mill will be coupled with a 32kW electric motor and produce a combined power output of 186 bhp. The engine is mated to a XTronic CVT transmission with a 2WD or an optional all-wheel drive system.

#3. Next-gen Toyota Camry 2017

Recently, Toyota has released a teaser image of its upcoming next-gen mid-class luxury sedan Camry, giving a hit towards its intimate launch anytime soon. The new Camry will be unwrapped at the 2017 Detroit Motor Show which will start from this January 9.
Considering some reports, it will receive changes over both exteriors as well as interiors. Spy shots of the test mule give some idea about its styling details and some alluring character line, larger windows, and door-mounted mirrors.

On the mechanical front, no official information has been revealed yet. It’s too early to say whether any new engine will join the current lineup or else continue with the existing ones. However, it is said that the existing 3.5-litre V6 engine offered in the several global markets will be replaced by a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine. There will also be a slightly upgraded version of the 2.5-litre, four-cylinder naturally aspirated engine the does duty in the base variant, which is currently offered in India. And more important, the new Toyota Camry will also be offered with a hybrid powertrain as well.

#4. Tata Nexon 2017

Tata Nexon, the compact SUV was first showcased at Auto Expo in February 2016 and then spied testing several times near Pune city. The test mule seems to be a production ready version which hints towards the intimate launch of the car in the country.
Tata Nexon is expected to launch by mid of this year and can be the tough competitor for the Maruti Suzuki Brezza and Ford EcoSport with the comparatively low price.

Mechanically, it is expected to be powered by a 1.2-litre, three-cylinder, Revotron petrol engine. Some rumors are also there about an all new 1.5-litre diesel motor, sourced from Revotron family, which produces around 110 Bhp of power and 260 Nm of torque. Transmission duties will be handled by both a six-speed manual or an AMT (automated manual gearbox).

#5. Renault Captur

Renault Captur is a crossover that is available in the global market. But the Indian market will witness its presence by mid-2017. Based on Duster platform, the Captur shares design cues from the similar in size Captur developed for the emerging markets such as South Africa and Asia.
About 4.3m in length the Captur is a spacious offering with five seat arrangement yet it is low in height which made it a true competitor of S-Cross in the crossover segment.

Under the hood, the Renault Captur is likely to be powered by the 1.5-litre dCi turbocharged four-cylinder diesel engine to propel the front wheels. The same powertrain performs duties under the Duster hood in two states of tunes. In association with five and six-speed transmission, the mill produces the peak power of 84bhp and 108bhp. While the petrol option will be 1.6-litre 102bhp four-cylinder engine shared from the same Renault Duster. The AWD transmission is also expected from the Duster.
