The dominative Indian automakers Honda Cars India Ltd (HCIL) and Maruti Suzuki India (MSI) has reported a strong sale of passenger vehicles considering particular December month noted double-digit number growth. Simultaneously, another car maker Hyundai Motor India posted a borderline growth in domestic segment in December month whereas Mahindra & Mahindra (M&M) reported a downfall of 7% particularly in domestic passenger vehicle sales considering the December month only.

Maruti Suzuki India (MSI), the major carmaker in the country posted its domestic sales at 1,19,286 units comparing 1,06,414 units in the last year during this time and it is 12.1% high comparatively. The sales from compact Sedan including Baleno, Dzire, and Swift have increased to 23.2% with a respective number of 53,336 units sale. MSI further posted regarding sales report of Utility vehicle comprising Ertiga, Ertiga, S-Cross, Gypsy, and SUV Vitara Brezza with 19,276 units in last month standing at 16,072 units in the December 2016.

The mini segment cars comprising WagonR and Alto reported a 2% hike to 32,146 units in December from 31,527 units in the last December. Accordingly, HCIL witnessed a 26% hike in domestic sales at 12,642 units comparing 10,071 units sale in last year during this time.

Totaling the number, HCIL reported a total growth of 15% by selling 1,78,755 units for the year 2017 in relation to 1,56,107 units in the year 2016. The premium sedan Honda City, a flagship model of the company generated 62,573 units sales in 2017 and has become the highest selling midsize sedan for this year.

On the success, Yoichiro Ueno, HCIL President and CEO said, “HCIL experienced robust growth during 2017 backed by good demand for all our products across segments, especially the Honda City and WR-V.”

The domestic sale of HMI increased to 40,158 units in December 2017 as compared to 40,057 sales in December 2016. The company recorded cumulative domestic sales of 5,27,320 units in 2017 from 5,00,539 units in 2016 and the number hiked up to 5.4%.

M&M mentioned that the passenger vehicles segment which comprises XUV500, Bolero, Verito, Xylo, and Scorpio noted 7% growth to 15,543 units as compared to 16,799 units in the previous year December.

Rajan Wadhera, M&M President in Automotive Sector explained that in the year 2018, the trending automobile segment as the shared mobility and the electric vehicles will grow and Mahindra will put the step forward to be an innovative and major player as well. Coming to the two-wheelers segment, the TVS Motor witnessed a 39% growth in cumulative 2,56,909 units sale in last month. It had also sold out an overall of 1,84,944 units in December 2016.
