Lord Shani is the son of Surya and his wife Chaya, and brother of the Lord Yama (who is the messenger of death). According to Hindu mythology, Lord Shani is known as for creating havoc in the life of a malefactor but if you are a benefactor, you need not to be concerned at all on this day. Lord Shani will be there to help you in every situation.

Why is Shani Amavasya celebrated and What should we do?


Amavasya falling on Saturday (the day of Lord Shani) is what we call as Shani Amavasya, the day is believed to be very evil in nature, and hence people pay homage to Lord Shani. People who believe in astrology go to the temple and offer various offering to Lord Shani in order to please him. People suffering from Pitra Dosh and Kaal Sarp Dosh pray on this day. Various other rituals are performed on the day in order to keep Lord Shani happy.

It is believed that lord Shani is the lord of justice, on this day lord created havoc on every malefactor. If you believe that you are not a malefactor and you haven’t done anything wrong than you need not to be afraid on this day.

In the year 2014 Shani Amavasya will be falling on 1st of March, July 6th and 22nd of November.
