Both the prominent automakers revealed their sub-compact Sedan models in the 2016 Delhi auto expo. Volkswagen is also excited to unveil its all-new product to the Indian shores. As we all know that VW had to face severe loss in the year 2015 due to the diesel gate scandal but the company is all set to make a difference by introducing more eco-friendly vehicles.


As far as Tata Motors is concerned, the introduction of Tata Kite 5 is important to the automaker and the company is trying to target mass-market. The new Kite 5 seems Zica-based and comes with a symmetrical body type which is best suited for a sedan category car.

Style and Design

In terms of the exterior design, the all-new Volkswagen Ameo is modern and classy. The chassis is built on the company’s PQ24 platform, which makes it light and tough. For making it more elegant, the automaker has included a large windscreen and a reprofiled bumper fitted with fog lamps. The engines of VW Ameo come paired to a five speed manual transmission gearbox options. Also, the top trim is likely to offer a 7-speed DSG automatic transmission gear box. It is anticipated to get a front McPherson strut and a semi-independent trailing suspension in the rear. Moreover, a power assisted steering column will make handling more easier.

Meanwhile, the Kite 5 is likely to offer AMT transmission option. The automaker claims that the Kite 5 is capable of delivering a better mileage of about 20 Kmpl, which will compete with the rivals simultaneously. Also, its diesel variants that would house 3-cylinder powermill are also expected to deliver better fuel efficiency.


The Volkswagen Ameo is likely to feature some top class premium music system and other equipments like radio tuner, CD/MP3 player and Bluetooth. The center console will also get a touchscreen display in the top lineup.


On the other hand, Kite 5 will also offer a 2-DIN music system including a CD player and a Radio.Additionally, it will offer connectivity options like USB, AUX-In and Bluetooth. However, this entry level compact sedan might not come with a touchscreen display.

Engine and Power

The newly previewed Volkswagen Ameo is anticipated to get powered by a 1.2-litre, three cylinder petrol engine, integrated with a multi point fuel injection system. The engine is likely to produce a maximum power output of 74bhp along with a peak torque output of 110Nm.

Meanwhile, its diesel powermill with four cylinders and may also come with a common rail fuel injection system, ensuring better fuel efficiency. The engine is capable of generating 88.7bhp power along with a peak torque of 230Nm. The engine shall be paired to either a 5-speed manual transmission or a 7-speed DSG automatic transmission gear box.

Moving to Tata Kite 5, the compact sedan is likely to be available in petrol and diesel engine options, where the petrol variant is likely to house a 1.2-litre Revotron engine incorporated with a variable geometry turbocharger. It is capable of delivering a maximum power of 88.8bhp along with a maximum torque of 140Nm. The engine is likely to come paired with a five speed manual transmission gearbox.

Estimated Price

The estimated price for the new VW Ameo is around INR Rs. 8.0 Lacs (Ex-showroom Delhi). While, the Kite 5 is likely to be priced at INR Rs. 4.5 Lacs (Ex-showroom Delhi)



The new Volkswagen Ameo is undoubtedly more classy and modern, dedicated to give a tough competition in the sub compact sedan category. However, looking to the price and fuel economy of Tata Kite 5, it hold a clear motto for the Indian market.
