#1. Maruti Suzuki Ignis 2017 –

Maruti Suzuki presents Ignis, said to be the first premium urban compact, is all set to go on sale from this January 13 and will be exclusively available on the Nexa Dealerships across the country.
The compact crossover was first globally introduced at the Tokyo Motor Show in 2015. And later the model made its India debut at Auto Expo in February 2016. Recently, the compact SUV was also showcased at 2016 Paris Motor Show.

The petrol powertrain includes a K-series 1.2-litre 4-cylinder engine that is good for maximum power of 83 PS and the peak torque of 113 Nm. The engine is mated to a 5-speed manual or automatic transmission. Maruti Suzuki claims a fuel mileage of 20.89 kmpl for petrol powered models and 26.80 kmpl for diesel powered models.

#2. Tata Hexa 2017 –

After a series of rumoured launch dates, Tata Motors has finally confirmed to launch its premium crossover, Hexa in the Indian market on this January 18. The advance bookings for the car had already been commenced with the token amount of INR 11,000.

Tata Hexa will be offered across 6 variants and total 9 Interactions. The list of variants includes – XE, XM, XT, XMA, XTA and XT 4×4. The Hexa will also be available with the standard 7-seater and optional 6-seater configurations. However, the 6-seater option is only available on the XT, XTA, XT 4×4 trims. On the other hand, the 4×4 all wheel drive or what company calls it ‘Super Drive Mode’ will only be offered on the XT variant.


On the mechanical front, the crossover will feature a 2.2-litre four-cylinder VARICOR 400 diesel motor which also does duty on the new Safari Storme, and capable of producing a maximum power of 154 bhp in combination with the 400Nm of torque. The power is transmitted to the rear wheels with the choice of a 6-speed manual or automatic gearbox, AWD is also available as an optional.

Coming on the list of features and equipment, since Hexa SUV is the premium offering from the brand, it is loaded with all the latest and smart techs. Inside the cabin, the SUV features ambience theme and seven- and six-seat unique configurations. For enhancing the comfort, it gets dual-zone climate control, separate AC vents for second and third-row occupants, and an 8-way adjustable driver seat. Other technology genius features include a 5.0-inch smart infotainment system, smartphone-based navigation system, 3.5-inch colour TFT display in the instrument cluster, 10-speaker audio package from JBL and reverse parking sensor.

#3. Maruti Suzuki Baleno RS 2017 –

The most anticipated hot-hatch exclusive from the Maruti Suzuki’s luxury dealership Nexa, the Baleno has put the small car segment competition on a higher notch. One on the most selling hatch of 2016, Baleno still has a long waiting period for deliveries in several states and company has geared up to introduce a performance-oriented model, Baleno RS in this year.

maruti-suzuki-baleno-rsThe Baleno RS was first showcased at Auto Expo in February 2016 and expected to go one sale by the end of this month. In terms of appearance, the RS version will receive several tweaks over its regular model that includes a more aggressive body kit and an enhanced interior.
The major change has been done beneath the hood, the Baleno RS will be fitted with the much-awaited 3-cylinder 1.0-litre Booster Jet direct-injection turbo petrol mill. The motor is coupled with either a 5-speed manual or 6-speed automatic transmission and is good for 112 bhp and 175 Nm.

#4. Next-Gen Toyota Prius Hybrid 2017 –

Launched in 2010, Toyota discontinued the first generation Prius hybrid from the Indian market a few year ago due to poor sales. Anyway, the compact hybrid sedan is all set to make its comeback under the ‘nex-gen’ moniker with more futuristic design and technology. The updated 2017 Prius has made its Indian debut at Auto Expo in February 2016 and is expected to go on sale by the end of this month.
Aesthetically, the car looks sharper as well as receives an aggressive front fascia and a more contemporary back. Besides, it has also come up with increased dimensions. It measures an increase in length, width and height by 60 mm, 15 mm and 20 mm respectively over its predecessor while the 2700 mm wheelbase remains unchanged. The Boot capacity has also been extended from 445 litres to 502 litres.

next-gen-toyota-prius-hybrid-2017Based on the Toyota New Global Architecture (TNGA) platform, the 2017 Prius hybrid will be powered by a 1.8-litre petrol engine that churns out the maximum power of 97.8 bhp along with 142 Nm of torque. In addition to this, the mechanical setup is coupled with either a new lithium-ion battery, nickel-metal battery, or a plug-in hybrid. It is not confirmed yet but the most probably the India-bound model will house a nickel-metal battery pack that will be fitted below the rear seats. The company claims an increased fuel efficiency by 10 percent and thermal efficiency by 40 percent for the new 2017 Prius hybrid.

#5. Volkswagen Tiguan 2017 –

A few months back, the giant German auto producer imported a single unit of second generation 2016 Volkswagen Tiguan SUV for testing purpose. However, this is the same 2016 Tiguan SUV which had made it Indian debut in 2016 Auto Expo.
The company also confirmed that the new Tiguan will be locally assembled in India instead of being imported as CBU. VW Tiguan is likely to be launched in a couple of months and will be assembled at the VW plant located in Aurangabad. The 2016 Tiguan was globally premiered in 2015 and is currently on sale in the United Kingdom.


Based on the MQB platform, the latest generation VW Tiguan SUV is globally offered in both petrol and diesel drivetrains. Petrol engine includes a 2.0-litre TSI turbocharged four-cylinder motor that is capable of churning out the maximum power of 180 PS along with the peak torque of 320Nm. On the other hand, the 2.0-litre TDI turbocharged four-cylinder diesel engine propels 150 PS of power output along with the peak torque of 340 Nm. Both the mills are offered with the choice of a 6-speed manual and a 7-speed DSG transmission with 2WD or 4WD setup.

#6. Nissan X-Trail Hybrid 2017 –

The hybrid SUV from the Japanese car manufacturer, Nissan X-trail was reported to launch by the end of last year, however, due to some undisclosed circumstances, it will go on sale in India from April this year.
The Nissan X-Trail SUV is not a fresh launch in India. It was on sale in the country before 2014 but later withdrawn due to poor sales. Now, after almost three years, it is making a comeback with Hybrid engine option instead of the regular powerhouse.

nissan-x-trail-hybridThe 7-seater latest generation X-trail will be fitted with a 2.0-liter 4-cylinder petrol motor, generating 145 bhp along with the 207 Nm of peak torque. Further, the petrol mill will be coupled with a 32kW electric motor and produce a combined power output of 186 bhp. The engine is mated to an XTronic CVT transmission with a 2WD or an optional all-wheel drive system.

#7. Next-gen Toyota Camry 2017 –

Recently, Toyota has released a teaser image of its upcoming next-gen mid-class luxury sedan Camry, giving a hit towards its intimate launch anytime soon. The new Camry will be unwrapped at the 2017 Detroit Motor Show which will start from this January 9.
Considering some reports, it will receive changes over both exteriors as well as interiors. Spy shots of the test mule give some idea about its styling details and some alluring character line, larger windows and door-mounted mirrors.

It’s too early to say whether any new engine will join the current lineup or else continue with the existing ones. However, it is said that the existing 3.5-litre V6 engine offered in the several global markets will be replaced by a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine. There will also be a slightly upgrade version of the 2.5-litre, four-cylinder naturally aspirated engine the does duty in the base variant, which is currently offered in India. And more important, the new Toyota Camry will also be offered with a hybrid powertrain as well.

#8. Tata Nexon 2017 –

Tata Nexon, the compact SUV was first showcased at Auto Expo in February 2016 and then spied testing several times near Pune city. The test mule seems to be a production ready version which hints towards the intimate launch of the car in the country.
Tata Nexon is expected to launch by mid of this year and can be the tough competitor for the Maruti Suzuki Brezza and Ford EcoSport with the comparatively low price.

tata-nexonMechanically, it is expected to be powered by a 1.2-litre, three-cylinder, Revotron petrol engine. Some rumours are also there about an all new 1.5-litre diesel motor, sourced from Revotron family, which produces around 110 Bhp of power and 260 Nm of torque. Transmission duties will be handled by both a six-speed manual or an AMT (automated manual gearbox).

#9. Jeep Compass 2017 –

FCA-owned (Fiat Chrysler Automotive) renowned off-road utility vehicle manufacturer, Jeep has officially stepped-in the Indian auto market with its three popular SUV namely Jeep Wrangler, Jeep Cherokee and Jeep Grand Cherokee.
And now another off-road beast, Jeep Compass is on the papers for its India launch. The 5-seater SUV can be launched by the mid of 2017.

2017-jeep-compassIt is reported that the India-spec Jeep Compass will be manufactured at the company’s local facility – Tata-FCV JV manufacturing plant, Ranjangaon, Maharashtra.
Globally, the all-new Jeep compass will be offered in five engine options that include three petrol and two diesel. Considering the India bound model, it is likely to offer in one petrol and one diesel powertrains along with the choice of manual and automatic transmission. It comprises, a Fiat sourced 2.0-litre MultiJet diesel engine and a 1.4-litre Multiair petrol unit. The former is good for propelling the unit with an output of 165 bhp of power and 360 Nm of torque, while the latter is tuned to produce the maximum power of 140 bhp along with the peak torque of 230 Nm.

#10. Next-Gen Hyundai Verna –

Hyundai displayed the 2017 Verna concept model at Beijing Auto Show in April 2016. Sporting an all-new design, it was currently on sale in the Chinese market and expected to launch in India by 2017.
No official details have been come out yet on the car’s production for the Indian market. Though, it will get 90% localization in order to keep the price competitive.
On the mechanical front, the next-gen Hyundai Verna currently offered in the Chinese market with 1.4-litre and 1.6-litre petrol engines that churn out the maximum power of 100 bhp and 123 bhp respectively. In Indian, it likely to come with the bigger 1.6-litre mill that will be mated to either a 6-speed manual/automatic or a 7-speed DCT transmission, reports.

It will feature upmarket dashboard design, a touchscreen infotainment system and generous legroom at the rear.
