As mentioned above, Maruti has clearly won the battle with maximum number of cars getting a spot among the best selling ones for March. However, if we look closely, all the famous models like Alto, Swift and Wagon R have gone through a negative phase with a decline in sales. This is the third consecutive year for the company to witness such a loss for these cars. These have gone through a de-growth of 11%, 13% and 4% respectively.

Even though Dzire is on the same spot as compared to 2015, but its sales have gone down by 1%. Moving on, Celerio has clearly emerged with a profitable score this year. It was seen on the last slot in 2015, but this time it has stepped onto No. 7 with a commendable growth of 75%.

Moving on, things haven’t been favourable for Honda this year as seen in the sales chart. Its City model is considered as one of the most finest sedans in the Indian market, but it has gone down to the last slot with only 5662 units of sales. This amounts to a loss of 42% loss in the sales and that’s a considerable amount. Then if we look at Amaze, it did quite well last year with 8128 units of sales. However, this time it’s nowhere to be seen among the best selling models.

Then comes Hyundai with its popular hatchbacks Elite i20 and Grand i10. Well, the former was doing very well last year at the 5th position with 10415 units being sold. But this time it has steeped to just 8713 units which accounts to a loss of 16%. Although the Grand i10 has had a favourable rise of 8% in the sales figure thereby reaching at 6th position, we can’t just get over the loss faced by its Elite model.

So, now the highlight of this countdown are the two new entrants Baleno and Kwid, which have clearly stolen the show. Both have succeeded in registering a place for themselves in the top 10 best selling cars within less than 6 months of being launched. That’s so cool! Isn’t it! Moreover, both have posed a great threat for the age old models like Swift as well as for the updated Elite i20 that used to be an ace player in its segment.

Baleno was launched in the last week of October 2015 and was an instant hit among the customers. It received so many bookings that led to a few months of waiting period. Lately, some more top end variants have been added to the lineup in order to render a complete package to the customers. The automaker intelligently introduced a premium hatch loaded with features and that too at a highly tempting price tag. This model is doing so well currently that it has not only affected the graph of rivals, but also for its own brand’s products (particularly Swift).

Talking about Kwid, it entered the Indian market by the end of September 2015 and people went crazy for it. It is a distinctive car in its segment that is characterised by high ground clearance, spacious cabin and yet a compact structure with robust outlook. It has got all the essential elements of a modern automobile and therefore has successfully thrown down the sales graph of many hatchbacks. It was launched at just INR 2.57 Lacs (ex-showroom), which was something hard to believe for the buyers. Renault is even planning to come up with another 1 litre AMT variant of Kwid by June 2016.

So, this was the compiled list of top 10 best selling cars in India March 2016 along with a comparative analysis of the sales. It seems like the constant success of Kwid and Baleno is certainly going to affect the performance of other cars to a considerable extent in the near future. Well, there are still a lot of cars lined up for launch and it’s hard to predict what follows next. As of now, Maruti continues to top the chars with its Alto and Honda City is still counted among the best selling sedans.
