The ongoing month- August is marked as a festive season with a number of occasions. Only a few days have been passed away in the celebration of Independence day and Teej, And, now the most popular festivals are around the corner that is Onam and Raksha Bandhan, both have significant in their own way. Onam is a famous harvest festival of South, celebrated in Kerala and Tamil Nadu. People of all caste and religion enjoy this day with full enthusiasm and fervour. Prepare different types of delicacies that are served on the banana leaf.

Payasam

The well-known dish of South India with a number of varieties, such as the one in which rice, wheat or vermicelli is boiled with milk and for its sweetness, sugar is added, another one is that, which we have shared the recipe yesterday.

It’s simply a regular pappad that has to fry and generally eaten at the end of the meal. “Guruvayoor Pappadums” are very popular in Kerala Onam Sadhya.

Achaar

Achaar is an essential part of any meal, having spicy, tangy prepared with garlic, lots of spices and mustard oil. The main ingredient will differ from raw mango, lime or lemon as the personal preference.

It’s a dry vegetable dish prepared with sauteed vegetables of different types, such as peas, green beans, raw jack fruits, carrots and cabbage along with grated coconut. Vegetables and the flavour of coconut make the dish tasty and healthy.

A traditional dish of Kerala having a combination of vegetables and fruits like cucumber and pineapple. It’s cooked by using curd and coconut paste and the real taste of this flavourful dish comes from the freshly grounded coconut, cumin and green chilly that makes it an awesome dish.

One of the essential parts of the Onam Sadya, cooked with a mixture of vegetables. The base of the dish is a combination of various vegetables and coconut. It’s topped with coconut oil and curry leaves.

Rasam

It is a liquid dish, which resemble like a sambar and best known for aiding digestion. Rasam is prepared with tamarind juice, tomato, chili pepper, pepper, cumin and other spices, which are used for seasoning.

Sambar

Sambar

A combination of many vegetables, such as drumsticks, tomato, potato and flavoured with herbs. It’s one of the most liked dishes in South Indian mostly eaten with Dosa, Idli, A Sambhar masala is available in the market for adding the more flavours, but nothing beats the freshly added spice into homemade Sambar.
