Chennai-based hotel development company, Adyar Gate Hotels Ltd. (AGHL) has aired their plans to establish a hill resort in Kodaikanal, Tamil Nadu. Till now, the company owns four luxury properties in South India- Welcome Hotel Grand bay, Vizag, Crowne Plaza Chennai Adyar Park, Fortune Hotel Sullivan Court, Ooty and newly opened InterContinental Chennai Mahabalipuram Resort. So, this Kodaikanal project will be the fifth one.

INR 80 Crore will be invested to set up this hill resort. Mr. Bharat Goyal, the Managing Director (MD) of AGHL stated,

“They had already invested INR 200 Crore, excluding land cost, for developing fourth property at Mamallapuram”.

Around 60 cottages will be there, which are well-furnished. AGHL has tied-up with the ITC Group for the flagship property in Chennai city last year and also decided to partner with IHG group.

He further commented,

“We have received approvals for Kodaikanal project. Currently, ground works are on and it will take at least a year to complete. We are constructing a boutique-type hotel with 60 independent cottages. It would become operational by 2018-19. The existing properties are managed by ITC group and InterContinental Hotels Group. It’s too early to name the operator for the new project”.

After completing this Kodaikanal project, the company would buy properties in Tier-II and Tier-III cities to establish more hotels. The new property of IHG, which has recently opened, spread in 14 acres having an open beach. It has been designed keeping in mind the south Indian temple with high ceiling, water bodies, large open courtyard, temple tank pool and many more.
