The Indian car market will be witnessing some good number of new SUV launches in the upcoming year. The upcoming SUV cars in India will be focused to offer great power and efficiency. We will also see the SUV cars with some amazing technical upgrades such as climate control and several driving modes as well. We will get to witness some next generation SUV cars that will carry a good amount of cosmetic and design change.

The upcoming SUV cars will be based on generation next platform and will be highly recommendable for Indian roads. With the international carmakers in the line, the domestic carmakers like TATA Motors and Mahindra will also bring their anticipated car models in the India market in order to compete with the international brands.

Maruti Ignis

Expected Launch: February 2017

Expected Price: INR 5 – 7 Lac

The Maruti Ignis is based on the carmaker’s  new lightweight platform that underpins the Maruti Baleno. The European-spec Ignis debuted at the 2016 Paris Motor Show, measuring 3,700 mm in length, 1,660-1,690 mm in width, 1,595 mm in height. The C-SUV holds a wheelbase of 2,435 mm and a ground clearance of 180 mm.


The Maruti Ignis will come with a  1.2-litre K-Series petrol and 1.3-litre DDiS diesel engines, coupled to manual and automated manual transmission options. The Euro-spec Suzuki Ignis also gets an optional SHVS mild-hybrid system, but we doubt about its availability in India. The features of Ignis includes Projector headlights with LED daytime running lights, 15- or 16-inch alloy wheels, multi-function steering wheel, automatic climate control, SmartPlay touchscreen infotainment system and reversing camera. It will be sold exclusively through the NEXA dealerships.

Nissan X-Trail 

Expected Launch: January 2017

Expected Price: INR 30 – 35 Lac

This Nissan SUV is a much-appreciated version from Nissan and also enlisted in Top SUV cars in India has a tried and tested engine of 2.0 liter MRD20DD engine and an electric motor as speculated. The said output is called at 145Bhp and 270Nm. The transmissions are X-Tronic CVT gearbox and an AWD setup which can be implemented.


Some other specifications are automatic climate control, advanced music system, rear AC vents and multifunction steering. Some outer tweaks have been done like Wheel arches and alloy wheels.

Tata Hexa

Expected Launch: January 2017

Expected Price: INR 13 – 18 Lac

Tata also makes some of the Best SUV cars in India and in these league, it has been preparing to launch a new SUV called TATA Hexa. The SUV has some of the features like honeycomb grille, 19-inch alloy wheels, reflectors and dual exhaust tips and LED tail lamps found on exterior parts. The engine offered is 2.2 liter, 4-cylinder VARICOR diesel engine mated to a 6-speed manual transmission linked to a 4WD setup.



Chevrolet Trailblazer Facelift

The Chevrolet Trailblazer Facelift will be assumed as Top SUV cars in India upon its launch when it was first revealed in 2016 Bangkok Motor Show. The SUV is said to be equipped with 2.0-litre Duramax Turbocharged diesel motor, producing 197 bhp of power output and 500 Nm of torque. The interior has an updated Apple CarPlay infotainment system while the exterior has all-new bonnet, upright grille, redesigned headlamps, prominent chrome highlights, new alloy wheels, updated bumpers.


Audi Q2

Expected Launch: June 2017

Expected Price: INR 28 – 32 Lac

The new Audi Q2 has been the league of New SUV cars in India which is supposed to get a 1.4-litre TFSI engine and a seven-speed S-Tronic dual-clutch automatic transmission. The SUV has been setup with the previous line of Q series and has all the premium attachment which has been fitted on other in market Q series SUV classes.


Renault Kaptur Small SUV

Expected Launch: July 2017

Expected Price: INR 8 – 13 Lac

Renault Kaptur is future looking SUV by its floating roof design, compact tailgate and the glossy color options along with attractive multi-information display instrument cluster, premium piano black finish on the dash and the 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Bluetooth connectivity, along with satellite navigation system. The speculated powertrain of the SUV is 1598 cc 4-cylinder engine with a power of 104 PS and torque of 148 Nm.


Hyundai Carlino [HND-14]

Expected Launch: early 2017

Expected Price: INR 8 – 12 Lac

Hyundai Carlino was showcased in Delhi Auto Expo 2016 and is an under 4m SUV from Hyundai. The design was done at the Hyundai Namyang design center in Korea. The exterior has been fitted with boxy and muscular chassis with swept back headlamps, hexagonal grille, flat hood, huge glasshouse. The SUV would be carrying a drive engine of 1.4L with 83 PS power and 11.7 kg of Torque.


Jeep Compass (New Jeep C-SUV)

Expected Launch: December 2017

Expected Price: INR 23 – 27 Lac

The second generation Jeep Compass is currently under production in Goiana, Pernambuco in Brazil and is planned for over 100 countries globally, India being one of them. The second generation Jeep Compass will be based on the modified version of the Fiat 500X‘s Small-Wide 4×4 and Jeep Renegade platform.


The 2.0-litre Tigershark flex-fuel engine produces 166 hp and 20.5 kgf-m (201.04 Nm) of torque running on ethanol and 159 cv (159 hp) and 19.9 kgf-m (195.15 Nm) of torque running on petrol. The 2.0-litre diesel engine delivers 170 cv (170 hp) and 35.7 kgf-m (350.10 Nm) of torque.  The engines are mated to a 6-speed automatic and 9-speed automatic transmissions.  The C-SUV will also be available with an optional four-wheel drive system.

2017 Skoda Kodiaq

Expected Launch: October 2017

Expected Price: INR 25 – 30 Lac

Skoda Kodiaq will be offering some cutting-edge technology such as door-edge protection that deploys automatically in order to protect the vehicle in garages and parking areas. Also, there is an electric child safety lock for the child occupants. The infotainment elements is said to be Volkswagen Group second-generation Modular Infotainment Matrix. They offer amages interfaces and functionalities along with capacitive touchscreens.


The Kodiaq will be available in a choice of five engines: two TDIs and three TSIs engines. The most powerful petrol engine, the 2.0L TSI, delivers 177bhp. A range of transmission options offered across the trim levels are six-speed manual gearbox, DSG transmission, front-wheel drive and all-wheel drive. This SUV gets Driving Mode Select and Dynamic Chassis Control (DCC) for great ride experience. As for safety, 2017 Skoda Kodiaq features Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) and Electronic Stability Control (ESC) as standard.

Volkswagen Tiguan

Expected Launch: November 2016

Expected Price: INR 28 – 38 Lac

The Tiguan is the first car from the VW Group SUV that will be based on the MQB architecture that also underpins the Golf and the Skoda Octavia models. In order to accommodate more occupants comfortably, the company has increased the wheelbase by 110mm. The SUV will be developed in China and Mexico and will be christened as VW Tiguan XL. The 2017 Volkswagen Tiguan (XL) is likely to arrive in the Indian market in late 2017 or early 2018.


Final Conclusion

In India, the Volkswagen Tiguan will arrive as a CKD (Completely Knocked Down) unit, and then it will be assembled at the carmaker’s Maharashtra plant.
